WHAT THE SELLERS LOVE

We really liked the fact that 9442 Macomber Lane had woods in the backyard. Unlike some of the neighboring homes, it has quite a lot of privacy and it’s further removed from the main street. The deck is fabulous to relax on the weekend or on a lazy summer afternoon. We love the large living room and separate dining room in our home. The house has huge sliding doors facing south, so there is always plenty of light. It always feels very bright and airy.

UPDATES TO 9442 MACOMBER LANE

We added a large deck with over 500sqft. We changed all the original aluminum electrical wiring (which is a fire hazard) into brand new copper wiring. We re-did the entire laundry room and upgraded most of the appliances (dryer/washer, stove, refrigerator). Due to the large canopy of trees, the summer utility bill is quite small, as it really helps to keep the house cool. We averaged $60-80/month during the summer and $150-200/month during the winter. We used BGE. The water bill from Howard County averaged around $15 a month.

COMMUNITY AND AMENITIES

We moved to Howard County because it is one of the best places to live and it really shows. It does not feel crowded. It’s right in the middle between DC and Baltimore, making it ideal for commutes. There is a thriving local economy, and the town centers have really extended over the years, particularly around Columbia Mall. There are also several miles worth of walking trails making it ideal of jogging or walking a dog. Columbia just has all those small things that allow you to enjoy a lazy weekend or a post-work afternoon and really decompress.

In Oakland Mills there are tons of great entertainment, shops and restaurants options. The neighborhood bar (Second Chance Saloon) is awesome and has all kinds of live shows during the weekend. We love the Merriweather Post Pavilion. It has frequent live concerts and had some big shows over the years (Ed Sheeran, Fun, etc). During the Summer it is always jam packed. In the Winter they set up a Christmas Light display you can drive through. It’s a great place.

We like the Mall which is just a short drive away. It’s easily one of the best malls and offers a huge variety of stores and restaurants. Columbia has so many great restaurants! We love Bon Fresco, Chutney Indian, Pho Dan Tangh, Zoe’s Kitchen and many more!

From May until October, Oakland Mills has a great farmer’s market in the town center with offerings from local farms. We have tons of grocery store options to shop around, but we usually stick with Costco, Trader Joe’s, Aldi, Wegman’s and Giant.

All the schools in Columbia are excellent. They are some of the best in the state and country, and it’s a frequent reason of why people decide to move here.
