WHAT THE SELLERS LOVE

When we found our home at 646 North Bend Road, we immediately fell in love with the brick steps leading up to the big front porch. We have enjoyed many nights rocking on the front porch and chatting with our neighbors as well as hosting great summer parties on the deck. We also loved the convenience of having a driveway large enough for 3 cars as well as ample street parking for guests. We love entertaining in our home. The great room has allowed us to host countless parties with our friends and family. The gas fireplace provides great ambiance and warmth on cold winter nights. Walking into the house we were immediately drawn to its charm and unique features that are common to a traditional Catonsville home while still having modern elements that we love. The original hardwood floors with dark inseams around the edges, the high ceilings, and oversized windows add so much character to the home. Upon entering the great room addition in the rear of the house, we knew this would be where our family would spend the majority of our time together! It most definitely is our favorite space in the house. What we love about our home is the amount of natural light that it gets. During daytime hours, we never feel the need to turn on a light because of the great amount of light and brightness in each room. We also love having the finished in-law suite in the basement which provides a spacious and private space for our guests while giving us a large storage space and workshop in the unfinished section of the basement. Spring, summer and fall are fun times for us in our fenced in back yard. We love the feeling of privacy while playing with our kids in the yard and having dinners on the large deck. On the 4th of July and New Year’s Eve, we have great views of the Inner Harbor fireworks from the front porch and back deck. Winter is also a season that we get to enjoy our back yard. Spending a winter evening relaxing in the hot tub is something that we look forward to every year.

UPDATES TO NORTH BEND

Re-plastered walls in the front living room and dining room

Hardwood floors re-finished in front living room, hallway and main floor bedroom

New carpet in dining room

Removed pop corn ceilings in upstairs bedrooms

Added multiple new outlets as well as light switches in upstairs bedrooms & basement

Re-painted every room in the home (including basement)

New wood-like ceramic tile and carpet flooring in the basement

Had professional landscaper remove trees and level out front/side yard

Our utility costs (both electric and gas) in the summer average about $100 when we keep our thermostat set to 74 degrees. We were living in a 2 bedroom rental apartment before purchasing our home and our utility costs are actually less now. On a cooler day, the cross-breeze that you get from opening the windows is amazing! During the winter, our average utility costs are about $125. The gas fireplace in the great room adds a good amount of warmth to the space. We love the fact the BGE provides our electric and gas to the home. They recently replaced the gas service to the house. They also installed a smart thermostat that is touch-screen and can be controlled through an app on our phone!

GREAT COMMUNITY AND SCHOOLS

In the Westgate Community everyone is very friendly. There’s a mix of young professionals, growing families and people who have lived in the community for decades. Many houses decorate for the holidays and take part in Halloween trick-or-treating. The Westgate Community Association delivers a neighborhood newsletter twice a year and organizes annual events such as an Easter Egg Hunt, Spring Clean-up Day and visits from Santa in Westgate Park (located on North Bend Road). We also love that it is a nice easy walk over to the park at the Christian Temple church and convenience store for ice cream. Westowne Elementary has a new building and the teachers and school community are very well regarded.

WE LOVE CATONSVILLE

Some of the things we love about living in Catonsville are the electic mix of homes, shops and restaurants. There is a “small-town feeling” that really makes it feel like home and provides a great sense of community. The Catonsville 4th of July Parade and fireworks celebration are like no other. Truly something that is a Catonsville tradition and can not be missed! Our family has loved the multiple Farmer’s Markets that are held, the annual September Arts & Crafts festival, the Frederick Road Fridays which are great for live music and the numerous free offerings at the Catonsville library. Some of our favorite restaurants in Catonsville are Matthew’s 1600 for their delicious menu items and relaxed atmosphere, Franco’s for their brick oven pizza, Scittino’s for their cannolis, Opie’s for the best ice cream, Catonsville Gourmet has amazing fresh entrees, Ship’s Café for crabs and Natty Boh’s, & Duesenberg’s for the BEST breakfast you could ever ask for. The Grocery store we use is Aldi’s. They have the best prices but can have a limited selection so at times we also go to Shopper’s which is right down the street. We moved to Catonsville because we loved the small town feeling it provides while also being 10 minutes from the Inner Harbor area of Baltimore City. The music, sports, food and entertainment options that the city offers are countless and all within a 10 minute drive. Additionally, the fact that Catonsville is a neighbor of Howard County also increases that vast amount of food, shopping and entertainment possibilities. It’s a 15 minute drive to the BWI airport which has helped make our traveling stress-free and very convenient. Catonsville is such a central location to everything you could need.
