WHAT WE LOVE ABOUT OUR HOME

When we first found our home at 8672 New Bedford Harbour, we loved the location!  It’s close to everything! The neighborhood is pretty, people are friendly and having water access is wonderful!

What we love about our home is the abundance of natural light, the quiet double deck in the backyard and the gorgeous trees all around.             

UPDATES TO OUR HOME

We have made some changes and upgrades like taking out the wall in the bathroom to make it one room, installed a whirlpool tub and added crown molding and new paint.

In the kitchen, we knocked down a half wall and put in an island with recessed lights. We also added lights under the cabinets, replaced the counter top, built in a microwave, and just painted.

We have just replaced the carpet throughout and replaced all the linoleum with laminate hardwood.

We have installed built ins in the living room, changed the coat closet, and painted most of the walls.

We built a lower deck in the backyard. Nothing to mow and it’s like having an extra outdoor room.

WE LOVE THE NEIGHBORHOOD

My single favorite thing about the neighborhood is the beach!! We like to go kayaking, crabbing, fishing and of course swimming! They have grills and picnic tables, plus 2 docks.

I walk the dog and go down there just to see the water at sunset!!

Pasadena is a great small town that’s close to all the action. DC, Baltimore, and Annapolis are about half hour drive.

We wanted to move to Pasadena because of the laid back vibe. It’s a small town that doesn’t feel too small. People are friendly and we are close enough to the big cities.             

Sunset Elementary and Northeast High School, the Library, and a dance studio, are all within walking distance from our house.  I used to walk my kids to and from school with our dog.

Sunset ES is a fantastic school and I’m still friends with some of the great teachers!!                      

RESTAURANTS AND SHOPPING NEAR US

There are 3 malls just minutes away and restaurants everywhere. There are also fitness centers and a new Y with a pool!

There are some really good restaurants close to us. My top three choices are Primos Italian, Gourmet Pizza, and Daily Scoop for ice cream. They are family owned and involved in the community. We also have Ledo’s, Texas Roadhouse and 5 Guys Burgers.            

We shop at Lauers for groceries. They have great prices and they also serve the community. There are 2 locations close by. There’s also a Giant and a Safeway.

When we found our home we especially loved the spaciousness and warm, loving “home feeling” that it gave us from the moment we walked in the door. We love its curb appeal, secluded back yard, and well-designed space allowing family members to spread out in their own spaces while having lovely, inviting areas to gather as well. It definitely had just the right flow for us. It has good storage space and ample parking from the extended length of the block being next to a corner home. 

What we love about our home is the secluded backyard with numerous beautiful trees that grace the property and provide protection and shade in the summer time, and even help to keep electric bills down during the season. The backyard is perfect for entertaining and we appreciated having a built in sectioned off doggie yard. We love the sun shining directly on the front of the house in the mornings as it glows gloriously through the large front living room window.   

The skylight in the upstairs main bathroom has the same luscious appeal. The kitchen has a wonderful homey feel with room for a table and has good built in storage shelving. We love the fireplace in our family room which we turned into our theater room projected on the wall with surround sound.

UPDATES TO OUR HOME

We added a 1 car garage.

The family room and first room from the foyer got new carpet in 2013.

The air conditioning unit was replaced brand new in 2006, and the furnace was replaced in 2013 along with the thermostat.

All upstairs rooms were painted and carpet was removed from the upstairs and steps revealing beautiful hardwood floors.  

Our utility costs have been affordable, steady and predictable since we’ve been in the house. PEPCO’s average monthly bill is about $140; Washington Gas about $89 (on the budget plan); WSSC about $70 (per month for four people but bills usually cover about three months of use).         

WE LOVE OUR NEIGHBORHOOD              

The neighborhood is a friendly atmosphere with many willing to help in times of need, such as snow shoveling. It’s well-kept and peaceful with the sweet sound of children actually playing outside – and with compassionate, conscientious neighbors. The immediate community has various family gatherings and events. The local schools have fun community events.

Some of the things we love about living in this area of Silver Spring is its very close proximity to schools, several parks, public transportation, shops, banks, post office, libraries, restaurants, churches and the fire department.

Downtown Silver Spring is a very sought after area for socializing with members of the community with food, drink, tasting events, shops, farmers’ market, art shows, dancing, mega movie theater, seasonal festivities, and music from great local bands and street artists. Also, the Inter-County Connector (ICC) road is very close by and has made it much more convenient for commuting to the other side of Montgomery County.    

Some of our favorite restaurants in the area are Greek Islands Grill, Ghar-E-Kabab (organic Nepali restaurant that does catering), Z Pizza (organic), Buffalo Wings and Beer (lots of fun with great specials), Khana: A Clay Pot (Indian) Grille in nearby Burtonsville, and Cristina Ristorante Italiano in Wheaton, Maryland.     

We moved to this area of Montgomery County for the excellent schools, low crime rate, close proximity of our desired businesses, community involvement and the peaceful neighborhood. 

Silver Spring is located in Montgomery County which has some of the best schools in the Washington metropolitan area. That was very significant for my family with three children. This along with the parks, library and close by shopping all made it a very appealing area in which to move.
