Let your mouse walk the house with our 3D tour https://bit.ly/10NewburgTour

This magnificent Victorian mansion is exhilarating in exquisite details, abundant historic features and tasteful modern conveniences. A pre-civil war residence that was the undoubtably the summer destination of the Baltimore elite of yesteryear before motorized transportation, is as grand today as it was in the 1800's. If these walls could talk. One of the classic timeless “Painted Ladies” of Olde Catonsville. (a house from the late 19th or early 20th century whose exterior is decorated with three or more colors of paint highlighting its ornate architectural features.) Meticulously maintained and purposefully enhanced, this is a rare opportunity to own a slice of everything memorable in 21228. Starting with the most perfect location merely steps from the heart of Catonsville, this property of .69 acres is a private sanctuary with a huge personality. Thousands of dollars in landscaping, shrubbery and lavish recreation awaits with a divine oasis boasting a spectacular recently installed, custom in-ground pool complete with every upgrade imaginable. Be sure to delight in the “Light show” after dark. Fully fenced and shaded by seasoned trees, there is room for every possible activity. Included is the outdoor kitchen, the “Tiki Bar”, covered patio, utility shed and a spacious structure with electricity currently being used as a detached gym……great workshop, office, pottery studio…..and so much more.

Welcome home. Sip a mint julep or a black eyed Susan on the delightful front porch before a short stroll to the best spot on the 4th of July parade route. The huge front porch invites you to “Stay a while”. This home is famous for the legendary events of Halloween, where kids of all ages marvel at the spectacular decorations and Holiday celebrations high in the sky. A cherished part of the living in the Olde Catonsville district.

Take a peek at the Catonsville History books to see this incredible home. From the “character abundant” entrance that reveals the beautiful wide plank hard wood floors, classic features such as transoms, glass doorknobs, original vent grates, a butler’s pantry, solid staircases, built in cabinets, bay windows, dormers and so much more. Bringing in the modern with Central AC, insulation, replacement windows and an incredible spacious kitchen.

Who better to tell you about the home than the Sellers.

When we found our home at 10 Newburg Avenue we loved that it was a part of Catonsville's history! We especially loved the large front porch and the location to Frederick Road.

Later we noticed the historical significance of the home after we bought the house. It was featured in a publication, and when we discovered this from a friend while having our housewarming party, we were elated. We were amazed that the house was a piece of Catonsville history! The house has been so good to our family. Our greatest wish is for someone to enjoy as much as we have. What we love about our home is the warm and inviting floor plan. We love the privacy of our backyard oasis. The addition of a waterfall cascading into the pool, a tiki bar and adjacent outdoor grill, and a large backyard makes for great entertaining during the warmer months.

We've added onto the property by building a new kitchen, adding insulation, a pool house, and storage shed. This house has a “”smart-house”” system that allows eithernet cables to be ran through the house; allowing no interruptions in the use of internet, mobile devices, and access to smart-tvs. The “”smart-house”” improvement has only enhanced our home's overall infrastructure making this an ideal living space for kids and adults alike.

Our front porch serves as both a haven and a terrific space to decorate for every season. The home glows with holiday lights, and adorns old glory during the Fourth of July holiday while enjoying our front-row seats to the annual fireworks display and neighborhood parade. This porch was made for socializing, but also those moments of peace while in your rocking chair, enjoying a refreshment while saying hello to the neighbors. The sights and smells of the beautiful yard, lush vegetation, and fragrant annual flower beds, while also enjoying the “”sweetness of doing nothing”” could not begin to express the sense of bliss one gets from this property.

The spacious living room, sitting areas, and other rooms on the main floor are made for entertaining. This house is perfect for any family who wants to enjoy Christmas at home, with many rooms to allow family and guests stay over from out of town. The third floor living space gives guests or family the feeling of enjoying their time at this home; with privacy and comfort.

Our “eat-in” kitchen allows time for our kids to talk about their day, do homework, as the pets hang out near an intake vent while dinner is being prepared, and/or laundry is being done in adjacent hallway. The kitchen was remodeled from a sunroom to a spacious area where cooking and cleaning are more efficient. New floors, climate control, and the ambiance in the pitched, b-board, vaulted ceiling opened up, and changed the space completely. The encapsulated floor supports the new space so the structural integrity of the house was not compromised during it's construction.

The black granite counter top is both beautiful and a godsend when cleaning. The kitchen island serves dual purpose for storage, with an icemaker built inside of the fixture, and a space where we can serve dinner, hors-d’oeurves for friends, and host game-nights. This space is ideal for storage with the design of the cabinets being both beautiful and functional.

The neighboring mudroom, by the kitchen, allows for us to enjoy a dip in the pool or come in from shoveling snow without tracking-in debris into the other areas of the house. Kids hang their scarves and coats, while we store our shovels, and come into a warm cozy home while we watch the snow fall from inside. Immediately after coming inside, there are bathrooms on each side of the hallway, leading into the dining room. Here you can ensure the comfort of guests and family as they enjoy a leisurely stay.

The bathrooms upstairs ensure that my family has their own space, while my husband and I are able to decompress in our own en-Suite before heading to bed. The upstairs and downstairs bathrooms make it easy for conflicting schedules and  kids to get ready for school, and parents to get ready for work with minimal disruption. The new HVAC units allow the house to be comfortable during the humid months, even on the third floor when outside temperatures can be extreme; while cool during the Summer and warm during the winter.

The foundation was reparged to also support the structure of the house. Other improvements include a newly installed roof in 2001 with the wood and shingles being replaced; the shingles come with a lifetime warranty. Although this house had to be maintained as we built our family, each repair was like throwing a penny in a fountain. Each addition built onto this house, and every repair, was like a wish made into a fountain for a better tomorrow for this house. Although we owned the house, we are merely tenants of something greater than “a house.” We preserved the house's significance to the community by cherishing it's legacy, and respect those who have loved this place before us, and those who will love it after us.

What have we upgraded in the house? This is actually funny to ask us, because since we moved in 24 years ago we've replaced almost everything but the walls themselves.

Replaced or upgraded the following:

*Front Public Sidewalk Replaced in 2019

In our neighborhood we have so many things to name. For instance, every year we close off the street and have a “”block party”” and walking distance to Catonsville Restaurant's. Not to mention during the summer month's our neighborhood has Live Music concerts on Friday's and Sunday's. Our home sit's where you can enjoy front row seats to the Neighborhood Parade as well as the Fireworks. These fireworks cost over 50k each year and are amazing.

Some of the things we Love about living in Catonsville is the Fourth of July community event's, The Art's Festival, The Lurman Theatre, Fourth of July Parade, every Sunday we have a Farmer's Market and the best part is the community itself. This community is one big family. This house is only a ten-minute drive to the airport as well. Some of our favorite restaurants in the area are The Beaumont for Five Star dining! Chef Paolino's & Scittinos has the best Pizza around! Jennings and State Fair for casual dining. Opies you can find your neighbors hanging around with their littles having ice-cream and socializing. Ships Cafe is a great Catonsville staple for fresh seafood! Also, neighboring areas such as in Ellicott City, Baltimore, and Columbia are a foodie's dream come true!

Basically, Frederick Road has become a restaurant destination and has tons of different specialties for your liking, all within walking distance ”              The Grocery store we use is Sprouts and our local Aldi's, Lidl and Giant. Nearby there is also a Sam's Club, BJs, and many artisanal shops for special occasions both in Catonsville and Ellicott City.

We moved to Catonsville because the draw of the family atmosphere drew my husband back home. My husband grew up two streets over from where this home is. When my husband grew up here, Catonsville was nicknamed “Mayberry.” Although Catonsville has evolved over the years, the town's quaint, charm appeal, neighborly people who will quickly become your friends, and not feeling like your minutes away from a metropolitan has matured over time. There is literally a place for everyone in this area.

In Catonsville the schools are absolutely amazing. We were incredibly blessed to have made the choice to move here and have our children benefit from public and private schools.

All three of our children went to Hillcrest Elementary. All three had the same kindergarten teacher.

Public and private schools have met my children's individual needs, and each school has a great reputation in the Catonsville community.

I have had great experiences as a parent when seeing educators accommodate the needs of my kids, being present at the community at large. Education in this area has a strong emphasis on service learning and social justice. My kids attended the following elementary, middle, and high schools:

St. Mark School

Mount St. Joseph

Catonsville Middle School

Catonsville High School

Our house is also minutes away from two colleges, and neighboring post-secondary institutions. The University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) and The Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC). There's also Towson University, Johns Hopkins University, University of Baltimore, University of Maryland Baltimore, and many more colleges/university are also nearby.
