What the owners love about their home!

When we found our home at 5536 Frederick Avenue, we were excited to have found a house in a safe neighborhood with a diverse and close-knit community that we could make our first home. We were familiar with the area and knew some of the neighbors having rented for a year nearby. We knew it was a house that we could afford and grow into as we planned to get married and eventually have children.

After just a few years, the third bedroom went from being an office to a nursery! With ample parking in both the front of the house and the rear parking pad, we knew we weren’t going to have to struggle to find parking like we had in previous living situations. As avid cooks, we love the kitchen appliances, especially the gas range and convection oven.

Our children loved playing in the basement, and we loved to dim the lights and watch a movie in the basement after the kids were asleep. There’s plenty of storage space in the basement, attic, and shed. We also enjoyed gardening and growing fresh vegetables in the backyard.

We also loved the proximity to destinations in Baltimore City, nearby Paradise shopping center, downtown Catonsville, Ellicott City, Columbia, and local parks and hiking trails. Easy access to the major interstates (695, 95, 70, 195, 295, 895) as well as access to public transportation make it easy to commute to work or school anywhere in the area.

With a programmable thermostat and all of the efficiency improvements that we made, especially the windows and energy star appliances, we were able to keep the temperature right and our utility costs low through all 4 seasons.

On average, our BGE bill is less than $100 and the water bill is less than that. As members of the Medwick Garth Community Association, our entire family made great friends and enjoyed the various activities planned by the association including happy hours, community clean-ups, Halloween parties, Santa visits, and more. We enjoyed access to the Short Line trail and the playground at the Christiam Temple on Edmondson, both a short walk away.

We like to cook. So, we did a lot of cooking and grilling, but some of our favorite restaurants include Peace a Pizza, Atwater’s, Indian Delight, Chef Paolino’s, Scittino’s, Thai Heaven, and Chik-Fil-A. Of course, there’s also Ship’s Cafe for crabs and Catonsville Gourmet for special occasions. The grocery store we use is the Giant on Wilkens, but we also did a lot of shopping at the BJ’s Wholesale and Trader Joe’s in Columbia. We moved to the Catonsville area because it’s a nice area and in a location that made it easy to access our jobs as well as community amenities. We like to spend time in the outdoors, so being close to Patapsco State Park and Leakin Park were great attractions.

I worked at Leakin Park when we bought the house, so I was able to ride my bike to work for 3 years! Our children enjoy going to story time at the Catonsville library and playing on the playground at the Christian Temple. There is also a Montessori school and child care facility there as well called The Watson Hall School.
