What the Owners Love about Locust Drive When we found our home at 414 Locust Drive I was attracted to the sense of community, but I think that what we love most about our home, and Catonsville in general, is that we are in a central location with a small town feel. We absolutely love the character of our home, like the arched doorway, original hardwood floors, door-panel doors, and transom moldings.

Our house has 3 separate living areas for our family to spread out including the front living room, the back family room and the finished basement. We use the back patio and yard almost every day! Our family can walk or ride bikes to everything Catonsville has to offer and our neighborhood block parties are not to be missed! The Fourth of July fireworks can even be enjoyed from our front yard. The neighborhood closes the 400 block of Locust drive so people can gather on the street to enjoy the fireworks.

240 Medwick Garth East Feast your eyes on this updated and perfectly maintained 3 bedroom townhome in the Baltimore County School District. Everything has already been done to make this home move in ready including gorgeous mature gardens in the back yard for you to enjoy right away!

The remodeled open kitchen with island and incredible storage is a pleasure to cook in and views to the yard are the icing on the cake. Step out the kitchen door to your covered patio to grill, entertain and enjoy your expansive fenced in yard with mature gardens. The house has central AC for those hot Maryland summers as well!

Main level hardwood floors have been refinished and create the perfect setting for your living area. The wall to wall carpet in all 3 bedrooms provides for a comfortable bed time and the full bath is large and updated. On the lower level, the finished basement includes a convenient 1/2 bath, a HUGE separate storage area with work bench and access to the back yard.

You will use the large fenced in back yard with perennial gardens and parking pad every day!

WHAT THE HOMEOWNERS LOVE When we found our home at 240 Medwick Garth East we loved it instantly. You wouldn’t be able to picture it now, but when we first walked in and saw its uniquely outdated decor, it was still clear that it was a house that a family had loved very much. It was well cared for and felt like home; we couldn’t wait to fill it with our own updates and family. We love that this is a traditional Catonsville townhome, but our remodeled kitchen makes it anything but typical. Replacing the wall between the dining room and kitchen with a large island opened up the entire main floor, making it very easy to cook and entertain at the same time. The extra-tall cabinets give us room for everything we need, there is more than enough counter space, and the whole things flows very nicely out to the backyard for those beautiful nights when you’d rather grill and eat outside.

There is a ton of storage throughout the house, from built-ins in the basement to an enormous sprawl of space in the easily accessible attic. The flat, lush backyard is beautiful in summer, when the roses, phlox, and honeysuckle are in bloom and hummingbirds and butterflies are everywhere. As fall approaches, the raspberry bushes produce many, many quarts of delicious berries. It’s been a pleasure to watch the family run around back there, building snowmen, playing soccer or tee-ball, and picking flowers and vegetables as the seasons change.

UPDATES TO OUR HOME

Kitchen completely remodeled

New roof with ridge vent in 2016

New hot water heater in 2014

Brand new HVAC system installed

New ceiling fans installed in the dining room and all three bedrooms

Main-level hardwood floors re-finished and stained Wall-to-wall carpet installed in all three bedrooms

New front and rear gutters

New Rubbermaid shed installed by the off street parking pad We’ve been pleasantly surprised by our monthly utilities in this house.

GREAT NEIGHBORS

Medwick Garth is an outstanding neighborhood with a caring community. We have biannual meetings with representatives from the city and county to keep us in the loop with what’s going on in our community, from new school construction to the ins and outs of local politics. We also have an active neighborhood association that holds events like yard sales, spring and fall clean-ups, a National Night Out cookout in August, and kids’ events like the Halloween parade and Easter egg hunt. We’ve even had Santa ride through the neighborhood on a fire truck, stopping to talk with all the neighborhood kids about their Christmas lists!

Just steps beyond the Medwick Garth loop, the community of Paradise is really becoming something special! There are great businesses and restaurants (including the new and improved Paradise Café), a magnificent cupcake bakery (Whimsy Cakes), conveniences like a pharmacy and animal hospital, and in the spring the neighborhood truly comes alive with Paradise Festivus, a family-friendly even with live music, food trucks, and more. Our house straddles the line between Baltimore City and Baltimore County, which gives us the best of both worlds! We’re minutes from the excitement of downtown Baltimore (with easy access to the Orioles at Camden Yards, the National Aquarium, and amazing museums), but enjoy the small-town feel of living in Catonsville.

LIFE IS GREAT IN 21228 Perhaps the best way to experience the feel of life in Catonsville is on the 4th of July. From the time the chairs start to line Frederick Road in late June to the last firework over Catonsville High, the Fourth of July in Catonsville is a fun, patriotic celebration that sets the tone for the rest for the summer, including Frederick Road Fridays and the Lurman Woodland Theater events.

WHAT THE OWNERS LOVE ABOUT 2337 BOSTON STREET

When we walked inside our home at 2337 Boston Street in Baltimore for the first time, we knew it was meant to be. No other house we saw even came close to leaving such an impression on us.

Our place has three bedrooms, large master and guest rooms, 3.5 baths, and a beautiful open concept kitchen and living room. There is hardwood throughout the second floor and a modern updated kitchen. We have 4 roomy parking spots, two of which are indoors, and still leaving space for bikes and shelves for storage. I remember thinking – wow – there is so much light coming through the many windows of this amazing corner townhouse.

What we love about our home is the amazing view that is just steps away, a place by the water to take a walk after a long day at work, and close vicinity to a huge grocery store, Starbucks, dry cleaner, and fantastic restaurants across the street and at Fells Point. We don’t even need to get in the car except to go to work. Everything is at our fingertips. The gym is right down the street and so is First Thursday – which is a super fun night out at the Canton park that is held once a month during the summer.

UPGRADES AND UPDATES

New carpets and paint throughout the house in summer 2016, new chandelier in the kitchen eat-in area, repair of electric outlet on the second floor, new garbage disposal, new shower heads in all three bathrooms, grout restoration in the master bathroom.

Our utility costs are pretty good despite the large size of the house. BGE sends us emails on a monthly basis to notify us of how favorably we compare to our neighbors.

WE LOVE CANTON

Canton is a great place to enjoy life! It’s a lively neighborhood close to fantastic restaurants in the immediate vicinity and just a 10 minute walk to the water in Fells Point. There are a variety of events a few blocks down the street at the Canton Park throughout the warmer months. The condo association also organizes community outings for neighbors to get to know each other.  Of course shopping has become easier since Target opened a few minutes down the road. Harbor East is also close by and includes several cute boutiques and some of our favorite Baltimore restaurants. We like to walk our dog by the water in the evenings, and take long walks and runs around the harbor when it’s nice out.

RESTAURANTS AND SHOPPING

Some of our favorite restaurants in the area are Fork and Wrench (across the street from our front door), Point South Latin Kitchen, Ouzo Bay, Ten Ten, and Azumi. If you like the bar and pub scene, there are numerous cool hangouts in Fells Point.

There are three grocery stores less than 5 minute drive of our home – Safeway, Whole Foods, and Harris Teeter. Safeway is easily walking distance and you can stop at Starbucks, an ice cream shop, or grab a salad or burrito on your way back home!

We moved to Baltimore to finish our training; however we decided to move to Canton and buy a home in the area because of how close everything is to this location. It’s an extremely walkable area of Baltimore which is a huge bonus when you live in a city. It’s close to the beautiful scenery of the Harbor and close to all the different amenities that one needs to live a comfortable life – grocery, shopping, great food, just to name a few.

In Canton, there are lots of opportunities to shop – Target, Michaels, DSW, Ulta, and Five Below are all within a 5 minute drive down Boston Street. Oh, did I mention that the entrance to 95 is close – not too close – but close enough to make your life easy when traveling out of town.
