WHAT WE LOVE ABOUT OUR HOME

The open floor plan that makes the house so functional and great for entertaining.  We love being able to see our guests from the kitchen and watch the kids while we cook. We love dining on our deck and grilling outside.

Our kitchen – The kitchen has plenty of storage space with our tall wood cabinets, a beautiful granite countertop with plenty of working space, and stainless steel appliances. We love the functional features of our kitchen, such as the spice rack, 2 lazy susan’s, soft closing drawers, and pull out pantry shelves.   We also love cooking with a gas stovetop.

We love trying to grow a new vegetable every summer in our raised garden bed, and seeing our plants come to life every year.

We enjoy waking up to lots of natural light and having the option of sitting on our front porch or deck depending on the sunshine.

We absolutely love the street and neighborhood we live in!

UPGRADES TO OUR HOME

Deck – The addition of our 14 foot by 16 foot deck added so much living space for our family.

 

Basement – We finished the basement by opening up the ceiling and leaving the gorgeous wood beams exposed. We added ceiling lighting and nice plush carpet. It has served as a lounge room, a playroom, and an extra space for guests to stay!

Our neighborhood offers such a tight knit community where neighbors look after one another and kids and families gather for a chat or play at any time.  Osborne Ave is such a wonderful street. You can’t put a price on wonderful neighbors and you can’t buy that sense of community we have felt in our time here.            

LIFE IS GREAT IN 21228

Catonsville has so much character from all of the old classic houses, to the new shops mixed in with old shops in downtown Catonsville, and all of the family fun events in the summer in Catonsville. Catonsville really is a town where people know each other and take pride in their town. We love being a block away from the 4th of July parade. We love walking to the Frederick Road Friday night concerts in the summer time or the Lurman wood concerts on the weekends. 

Our neighborhood association has an annual summer BBQ, annual clean up day and yard sale day.”

Some of our favorite places to eat are in walking distance from our house. For a good cup of coffee there is Atwaters bakery or Cafe de Roma. For a local bagel shop there is Sam’s bagels. We can walk to Catonsville Gourmet for fresh seafood or Matthew’s 1600 for a nice lunch, dinner or drinks.

Catonsville should be called the ice cream or snowball city because within a block there are 3 different choices for soft serve ice cream, gelato or snowballs

Of course within a few minutes’ drive there are yummy Vietnamese, Korean, Indian, Mexican or Chinese restaurants too.   The grocery store we use is Giant, only 3 miles away.  Of course for specialty Asian food items H-mart is across the street with a lot of options for fresh seafood and great produce!

Scittinos deli is a local Italian Market which is just around the corners and has a small grocery store for grabbing small things. They have a great deli, fresh bread, and wonderful desserts.

An amazing local butcher – Trueths and Sons is just a short drive.

 

Don’t forget about walking to the farmer’s market every Sunday and Wednesday in the summer for fresh produce!          Catonsville’s location is ideal. We are 15 minutes from the airport, we can easily access all freeways within minutes, and all that you need, from the post office, library, parks, and restaurants are all right here.  Catonsville has great public and private schools and plenty of parks for everyone to enjoy.             Patapsco State Park is a few minutes drive away, offering playgrounds, mountain bike trials, hiking trials, camping and a nature center.

 Finally, it was clear from the first walk-through that all of the previous owners of the home cared for and maintained the property over the years.  It has been carefully updated and restored over the years. 

There are many things we love about our home!

The property has so many cool and interesting spaces.  The side porch is a great place to have a cup of coffee and read a book.  The whole house including the huge backyard is wonderful for entertaining.  

The new multi-layer deck and patio with in ground lights and a fire pit are great for year round use. 

The walk out basement is a wonderful guest/in-law/nanny suite with its own entrance, bathroom, and kitchen!

The neighbors are extremely kind, helpful, and fun to live near.  We love to attend the community parties, book clubs, and cookouts.  And the kids in the neighborhood range in age from new born to teenager so there are playmates and babysitters on the street! 

In addition, Melvin Avenue is part of the “Old Catonsville Neighborhood Association” which is very active and engaged with the town.  Our neighbors have great pride in the street and and take good care to maintain the beauty of the neighborhood.  

We moved to Baltimore County because of the historic neighborhoods, the proximity to Washington DC and Baltimore, the climate, the great schools, and public facilities, and the many job opportunities.

 

WE LOVE CATONSVILLE

 

Catonsville has been an extraordinary community to be a part of!  We love the local, small town feel but with close proximity to two major cities, DC and Baltimore.  We love the walkability (or jogability) of the town and the community engagement efforts. 

The free Friday night concerts downtown and the weekend concerts at the Lurman Amphitheater are super fun and convenient!  We love the parks, playgrounds, and public libraries.  All of the holiday events are memorable every year including Santa’s arrival into town, to the Firework display on the 4th of July.  The Arts and Crafts Festival is a must see as well as the multiple farmer’s markets that run throughout the year.  

We love all of the local restaurants!  Catonsville has some wonderful variety when it comes to dining out.  I really like that we can get pretty much any type of food we want without having to go more than a couple of miles away even if we are celebrating an event or just looking for a quick and delicious meal.  

The grocery stores we use are Aldi, Lotte Plaza, H-Mart, and Giant.  We also like that Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, and Costco are only a quick drive down the road.

 

WE LOVE OUR CATONSVILLE SCHOOLS

 

All of the schools in the area are great!  We love Hillcrest Elementary School, and are so pleased and proud of the effort of our neighbors who fought diligently to make sure that Melvin Avenue kids continue to go to Hillcrest.

Once inside, the living room was spacious and there was plenty of natural light flooding the house. I also loved the flow from front to back. What we love about our home is the space for our kids! This is where my husband and I have raised our two children. There is plenty of space for them to play and spread out, including their bedrooms. I enjoy seeing my son go to his sister’s room so they can both play together. That might be one of my favorite things to watch! We really enjoy sitting on the patio in the sun with a glass of wine, while we plan future outings for our family. I think this might be when I’m most relaxed because I’m looking forward to things we’re going to do in the future.

UPDATES TO 211 WESTSHIRE

We put in the brick patio and adding some gardens to the landscaping in the backyard. It is now the perfect spot to entertain friends, because they now can enjoy the porch or patio while we grilled food. We’ve spent many days playing cornhole or card games while enjoying the smell of teriyaki chicken or hamburgers.

We always walk around our neighborhood and adjacent neighborhoods. My husband and I make it a point to keep the kids active and we’ll even walk to a local playground and the kids love it. It really makes me proud to know they enjoy being active outdoors. We’ve attended barbecues and birthday parties from neighboring friends, and the camaraderie doesn’t stop during the winter season. Every year our neighbors group together to help each other dig out from a snow storm. It’s the definition of be kind to your neighbor.

WE LOVE CATONSVILLE

Some of the things we love about living in Catonsville is the sense of community. There’s a yearly parade downtown, along with numerous festivals, one of which we attended down the road in Paradise. It’s always fun to go somewhere that has live music and good food to eat. The location is also centralized for us; we love going to Historic Ellicott City or downtown to the National Aquarium or an O’s game. We moved to Baltimore County because I grew up here. I love this area because of its sense of community and its location to everything, including great schools, library, festivals nearby and downtown, and even local ice cream shops, which includes one within walking distance. Catonsville has everything from great schools to restaurants to plenty of shopping. We are in the Westowne Elementary District and are getting a brand new school for 2016/2017.

RESTAURANTS WE LOVE

A few of our favorite restaurants in the area are Matthew’s 1600, Catonsville Gourmet, Taneytown, and Grilled Cheese & Co. The grocery stores we use are Giant and Shoppers. Both are only a few minutes away from our home.

What first attracted us to the home was its’ location and its charm. Our house is near downtown Catonsville, which is where I grew up and love; great shops and local eateries. When I first saw the house it made me want to go inside, because it gave me this feeling it would be the place I wanted to live in as we started our family. Once inside, the living room was spacious and there was plenty of natural light flooding the house. I also loved the flow from front to back. What we love about our home is the space for our kids! This is where my husband and I have raised our two children. There is plenty of space for them to play and spread out, including their bedrooms. I enjoy seeing my son go to his sister’s room so they can both play together. That might be one of my favorite things to watch! We really enjoy sitting on the patio in the sun with a glass of wine, while we plan future outings for our family. I think this might be when I’m most relaxed because I’m looking forward to things we’re going to do in the future.

UPDATES TO 211 WESTSHIRE

We put in the brick patio and adding some gardens to the landscaping in the backyard. It is now the perfect spot to entertain friends, because they now can enjoy the porch or patio while we grilled food. We’ve spent many days playing cornhole or card games while enjoying the smell of teriyaki chicken or hamburgers.

• Power washed and sealed the front-side brick for a clean look

• New front and back doors
• Installed HUGE new kitchen sink
• New flooring in the family room. We put in a light wood color to add to our beach-themed colors
• We also put down carpet on the storage side of the basement so it made folding laundry a little more comfortable on our feet Our utility costs are always better than I ever expected and something I never worry about.

WE LOVE OUR NEIGHBORHOOD

We always walk around our neighborhood and adjacent neighborhoods. My husband and I make it a point to keep the kids active and we’ll even walk to a local playground and the kids love it. It really makes me proud to know they enjoy being active outdoors. We’ve attended barbecues and birthday parties from neighboring friends, and the camaraderie doesn’t stop during the winter season. Every year our neighbors group together to help each other dig out from a snow storm. It’s the definition of be kind to your neighbor.

WE LOVE CATONSVILLE

Some of the things we love about living in Catonsville is the sense of community. There’s a yearly parade downtown, along with numerous festivals, one of which we attended down the road in Paradise. It’s always fun to go somewhere that has live music and good food to eat. The location is also centralized for us; we love going to Historic Ellicott City or downtown to the National Aquarium or an O’s game. We moved to Baltimore County because I grew up here. I love this area because of its sense of community and its location to everything, including great schools, library, festivals nearby and downtown, and even local ice cream shops, which includes one within walking distance. Catonsville has everything from great schools to restaurants to plenty of shopping. We are in the Westowne Elementary District and are getting a brand new school for 2016/2017.

RESTAURANTS WE LOVE

A few of our favorite restaurants in the area are Matthew’s 1600, Catonsville Gourmet, Taneytown, and Grilled Cheese & Co. The grocery stores we use are Giant and Shoppers. Both are only a few minutes away from our home.

When we found our home at 120 Melvin Avenue there were so many things that we fell instantly in love with this house.  

First, it was the beautiful street and “Old Catonsville” neighborhood within walking distance from downtown Catonsville.  Second, the character and historic details found all over the house from the custom moldings to the beautiful floors.  Despite the age of the home, the rooms are huge which was also a big and welcome surprise. 

 Finally, it was clear from the first walk-through that all of the previous owners of the home cared for and maintained the property over the years.  It has been carefully updated and restored over the years. 

There are many things we love about our home!

The property has so many cool and interesting spaces.  The side porch is a great place to have a cup of coffee and read a book.  The whole house including the huge backyard is wonderful for entertaining.  

The new multi-layer deck and patio with in ground lights and a fire pit are great for year round use. 

The walk out basement is a wonderful guest/in-law/nanny suite with its own entrance, bathroom, and kitchen!

The neighbors are extremely kind, helpful, and fun to live near.  We love to attend the community parties, book clubs, and cookouts.  And the kids in the neighborhood range in age from new born to teenager so there are playmates and babysitters on the street! 

In addition, Melvin Avenue is part of the “Old Catonsville Neighborhood Association” which is very active and engaged with the town.  Our neighbors have great pride in the street and and take good care to maintain the beauty of the neighborhood.  

We moved to Baltimore County because of the historic neighborhoods, the proximity to Washington DC and Baltimore, the climate, the great schools, and public facilities, and the many job opportunities.

 

WE LOVE CATONSVILLE

 

Catonsville has been an extraordinary community to be a part of!  We love the local, small town feel but with close proximity to two major cities, DC and Baltimore.  We love the walkability (or jogability) of the town and the community engagement efforts. 

The free Friday night concerts downtown and the weekend concerts at the Lurman Amphitheater are super fun and convenient!  We love the parks, playgrounds, and public libraries.  All of the holiday events are memorable every year including Santa’s arrival into town, to the Firework display on the 4th of July.  The Arts and Crafts Festival is a must see as well as the multiple farmer’s markets that run throughout the year.  

We love all of the local restaurants!  Catonsville has some wonderful variety when it comes to dining out.  I really like that we can get pretty much any type of food we want without having to go more than a couple of miles away even if we are celebrating an event or just looking for a quick and delicious meal.  

The grocery stores we use are Aldi, Lotte Plaza, H-Mart, and Giant.  We also like that Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, and Costco are only a quick drive down the road.

 

WE LOVE OUR CATONSVILLE SCHOOLS

 

All of the schools in the area are great!  We love Hillcrest Elementary School, and are so pleased and proud of the effort of our neighbors who fought diligently to make sure that Melvin Avenue kids continue to go to Hillcrest.
